RE: Hyde's patched
Don. I really think you and Kenny are on to something. I am using Sagebrush PJ Money bullet and BACO Money bullet. Both are running .443 dia. PJ bullet is 1.497 long and 530.9grs, Baco is 1.507 long and 535.3 grs. Patched with .002 Mead tracing paper when completely dry, they are .451 dia. Have not noticed bad call flyer's at 800, but a few at 900 and more at 1000 yards. I have been patching to ogive with only a bit of the base free of paper. Comparing notes at Lodi I believe that some of the patches were not releasing clean upon exit and this may be the cause of the flyers. I am now trying a height of 23/32. This is giving me a 3/32 base fold and 20/32 for patch height. This is short of the ogive and should release cleanly upon exit. I will be testing with 1&1/2 Swiss, Old E 2fg and Old E3fg in my 45-70 and 45-90. I will be using .030 and .060 card for compression and a cork or felt wad under the bullet to protect the base. As soon as our weather improves I have some work to do. Old method loads were good enough to get me classified Expert and think a larger front apperature for 1000 yards and this patching style will improve my scores and get rid of the occasional wide shot.
