I just posted a picture a couple weeks ago about three threads down on Veg fiber over powder wads.
I did look into this using 1FG to 4FG powder several years ago with out wads or just wax paper or news paper wads.
Using 1F with out did considerable damage to the bullet base including the sharp edges doing crazy stuff to accuracy. placing a wax paper wad did not help protecting the base but a .012" poster board wad did. There were no impressions in the base using 1/40 T/L alloy.
Pistol bullets using 3F were no problem also the rifle cartridges except when heavy compression was used .
Alloys as hard as 1/16 with 1F and 1.5 swiss did the number on the bullet base.
I might still have photo's of all the different wad and powder results in on disc.
Using the hard alloy other problems came into play besides base damage. Gas cuts came into play using a PP or GG bullet. Hard bullets that were .002" over groove diameter faired pretty well.
