.44-77 PP bullets.

I wanted a box to hold my 44-77 cases with the bullet up. I took an MTM R-100 box and pulled the plastic insert out and then cut 4 square blocks that just fit into each of the quadrants inside the box. I then drilled each block with an 11-16 forstner bit. Each block will hold 16 rounds bullet up. That was the easiest solution I could come up with short of having a custom box built.

I'll see how these MTM I ordered work out. If they don't work I think the wooden block in some sort of box(es) will be the way to go.

The R100 box is a flip top box and will hold 100 rounds of ammo. I took out the plastic and it has molded in supports. I cut the squares of wood to 3.145" give or take a whisker. I probably should have done this last night but didn't feel like it. This morning I took a pic to give a better idea of what and how. The wood is some cherry I had laying around and had to glue 2 pieces together to make it thick enough to use.

nope, its a cast one from a BACO mold. I thought it would be good to add a round to the box for the visual effects. That is a damaged case neck and it just happened to be tight enough to hold the bullet in place. I have a bunch of them cast up in different lengths. I just need to scrape my stuff together, load up some and head out to the range one of these days and see what kind of patterns they will print.
I was doing some web surfing the other week and managed to find a range maintained by the State Game Commission a little over a half hour from me. Its nice with covered firing points and benches. down side is its only 100 yards but it is free and easy to get to. Its a place to start if nothing else. I find something that shoots tight at 100 I can take it to Ridgway and see how it works at longer range.

The reason I asked was I saw a hole that looked like the ejector pin made. That bullet looks like one of my swaged

Nope, actually what you saw was an optical illusion. I did have to go and take a look at the bullet. As it sets in the box at first glance it looks like its black on the very tip, but actually that is the sprue shear and its very smooth and shiny and the dark you see is a reflection of the beams above it . When I picked it up to see if it had black marker on it, it didn't, its just shiny like a mirror is all. Its a nose pour mold and that one happened to cut off very nicely.

That looks good. I'll probably end up doing the same thing. I really want my cartridges bullet up and then I lay a piece of foam on top of the cartridges so when I close the lid everything is held in place and not rattling around as I travel the many miles to a match.

I got some loading blocks from a guy making them out of pine boards and selling them cheap at a gunshow. Built a plywood box around them.
But taking an empty case to Cabela's and dropping it in one of their plastic 50 round WSM cartridge boxes will pay dividends... just don't get the WSSM boxes.
