50-90 paper?

RE: 50-90 paper?
You bet Kurt, what's CPA? the 40-65 is a fun little cartridge too, I enjoy hunting with mine and the 400gr flat nosed paper patch bullet, it simply knocks deer stupid, out of 9 deer so far, farthest traveled was a 30 yard death run into the side of a carved out creek bed, she lost her steering and hit that red bank hard!Smile

I was already going to be shooting 50, but Mrs. Paddock up the road called to tell me she has just put two fresh gallons of cows milk in the big cooler for me, i'll fire up the old 1952 Dodge B3PW, run it into town and make a bank deposit, then stop in and get the milk, her husband is 87 years old and a Korean War Veteran, he loves that old Dodge, used to run em in the war he says, back when he was young enough to eat a roll of barbwire and spit you a bucket of nails! Cool

Had a hell of a shoot this evening, averaged around 6 inch groups on 500 yard steel, GTG! power wagons back in the barn, milks in the box, and brass in tumbler, what to do tomorrow?

Sounds like you have that rifle working.
I used to have a 1939 Military surplus powder wagon when they still used to see them back in the 50's Does yours still have the 6 cylinder flat head in it or has it been changed out?

Kurt, Thanks for the link, i'll check it out, and yessir, the rifle is working, this was a very easy task to get up and running right, all is well with rifle and load, proved it again yesterday when Mother Earths distractions are NOT tricking me into shooting at something that not really hanging/sitting where I'm looking!Smile

The old power wagon indeed has a flat head 6, milled the head 80 thou to bump compression, had a bud put a late grind on the cam, found an old offenhauser twin 2 barrel carb intake and split exhaust header, that thing will run 48 mph now -grin-

I built the old truck for Gramps, took it to camp and gave him a ride in it a few times before he died, he was a 41 year retired US Army E-9 CSM, he was in WW-II, Korea and VN, retired in 1981, we buried him in the winter of 2014 at 94 years old, a tough old bird that I was proud to call Gramps.

I ground mine down .065" and ended up breaking a valve off winding that rubber band to tight LOL.

Dangit man, you were gassin on that thing, I keep my rpm's at or below 2500Big Grin, the cam grind helps mine with a little more torgue so don't have to wind it so tight, and gearbox is find it and grind it every time ; ]

RE: 50-90 paper?
Going to shoot the last of these test load rounds in the morning, will then tumble and clean 100 rounds of 50-90 brass and load all with 102gr OE 2F and 706gr 1.506 inch long.494" paper patch bullets, have cast and there 100 beautiful bullets at 16 to 1 alloy ready to be patched.

My 700 yard gong and stand will be ready this Wednesday, will drill the rock and pound in 4 half inch anchor bolts, that thing isn't going anywhere, will be about three feet of rock ledge out front for walking around and repainting as needed, cant wait to hear the first Big 50 bullet smack that 700 yard steel!

The 45-120 with barrel sights will be next, followed by the 45-110 bull barrel rifle, 44-77 and 40-65, the little 45-70 #3 sporter will get a workout there too, I have no doubts on being able to clearly hear it's 530gr paper patch bullet leaving at 1244 fps when it arrives as well.Smile

Here is a target Brian made for the 1000 + yard at the Big Hill at Baker MT. http://www.shilohrifle.com/forums/viewto...03#p295403
That target has a ring separate suspended as well as the center bull.
When I was getting my sight settings the first shot hit that ring and even at 1000 yards I thought I heard a church bell ring. When you hit the center or the ring as well as the whole plate they all have a different sound. You don't have to look through the scope to know where the bullet landed.

Kurt, nice, a lot of innovation there, I showed my Wife the pics as she was walking by, she said, you men and your toys.Smile she pinched my ear and walked on, she's a good girl and fully aware a man can have much. much worse habits than guns, hunting and shooting ; ]

I can wait to get 700 yard correlation marks on my ladder barrel sighted rifles too, speaking of being a hard holder.
