Thanks for chiming in Arnie. It's always good to hear from folks that are doing it.

Arnie I can't remember what target I was pulling when I pasted the holes but I know it wasn't on the 800. I told you when I got out of the pits that you had some holes that showed yaw.
Ground is pretty white today Tongue

Kurt,
I am fairly certain that it was when I was shooting the 40-72 on Sat that you observed the yaw.
Mike R had , in a previous match saw the same yaw when I was shooting the 40-72 with that 1.55" long BFSS bullet
As you know, last couple years , I am using DDEPP -Dual diameter Elliptical PP bullets in both the 40-65 and 40-72.
But still, the 40-65 outshoots the 40-72 for me at all distances.

Correction to my 10:46am entry:
Jim K had won the two day 2011 BPCT long range with a
522.06. The 273.03 was his AG score on Sunday.

Well It sure impressed me when I was pulling the target that it convinced me to build one with a tight chamber for the silhouette and midrange.
I haven't shot it enough yet, just haven't found range time. I was hoping to run some rounds at the Cadillac Midrange match this fall but it didn't work out for time during the practice time and I had a problem finding the 600 yard target do to the new scope and wet ground with high grass getting on paper. I just about ripped the scope back off Smile
The Cadillac 500/600 match. It started bad with only 4 sighter shots allowed and a 2 MOA 10 ring the last sighter went into the 9 ring and going for score then things went down hill into a 7 and 6 with 3 misses in a row and I ended up with a 40. The rear scope mount was loose and the scope fell off on the last shot fired.
The second relay things went better and after three shots fired for the rest of the day I checked the rear screws and at times it took a 1/4 turn to tighten them again but I shot a 80 and 83 from the 600.
I used lock tire and let the rifle set over night and for the 500 things went better with 91/0--95/1---94/2. I think with some load development this will improve. I just threw some Swiss and OE loads together with 64 grains each but different bullets for each powder loads. The Swiss 64 gr 1.5 F I used the Brooks prolate 393 gr 393 diameter 1.396 long at 600.

On the 500 I used 64 gr of 2F OE with the BA ellipticaL 415 gr 394 diameter 1.455 long. Now this is a custom mould I had Jim make with my specks,I have three moulds I ordered for this rifle and all three shoot good at 200 yards but need testing for longer ranges.
The other mould is a Jim-395/415/E but it drops a 396 diameter and it needs thinner .0015: thick paper to fit my .3994 bore.

I would like to try your design Arnie and Jims but I would have to design it to fit my chamber with a reduced base smaller then what works for you two because I can't use a patched glove diameter bullet at the base.

Smile is there ever an end to this game Smile

RE: Designing the 2-diameter paper patch bullet.
Kurt,
I recommend you look at the Seth Cole 55W or 55Y for thinner 0.0015" paper for that JIM 395415E bullet.
If you need some to try, I can spare some of each.
Let me know.
Also, indeed, I presume your chamber is a PP chamber with Neck I.D. at or close to bore of 0.3994.
I have a DDEPP drg I provided to Harlan Glover for his 14 twist 40-65. Could send you that drg. Bullet is 1.43-1.44" long.
It is shooting well for him
Mod Elliptical with a 0.19" hemi meplat.
Simple matter to provide an E- PP from that drg. Just leave off the 'patch to groove" base band,
making it into a straight sided slick of appropriate dia to fit your PP chamber.

RE: Designing the 2-diameter paper patch bullet.
Arnie I have six rolls of each of the 55W and 55Y I found at Staples And I made a sizing die to take two thousands off the patched bullet. I normally don't like reducing a bullet but this is working. I'm not going to change anything till I get a chance to work up a 5-600 yard load when I find a range. I might rejoin the Milan range or shoot across the field here. Alma will also start back up in April so I will get things worked out.
Don also gave me 50 two diameter bullets a few years ago and I have 17 left I can reduce the base on and see if they fly in the 14 twist .40 but I don't think that I can improve on the straight sided bullets I have. It will be a long winter with time to get a load and see what recovered alloy looks like.

Kurt those are 44's, not gonna be much left if you try to take them down to 40...

Your right Don. This is what 78 years does to a guy that has had a lot of recoil jar his gray matter Tongue
