Ya, the next one is going to be a 50-70, already in the works. The wind is blowing 25mph and gusts up to 35mph here today. I was planning on shooting too. Might be a short trip to the range. Here are some better pictures.

good looking Shiloh congrats. bobw

Well I loaded up 8 rounds with a 350 grain GG bullet that I had on the shelf with some smokeless powder. Went to shoot it today and could not pull the trigger, just went against everything I could think of.Huh Now I am pulling the bullets and going black. I have some slick sided 565 grainers poured for my 2.7/8, but I think they are a little heavy for the 70. Going to turn down my adjustable mould and pour some around 500-530ish grains this afternoon. I think this is the longest I have owned a rifle with out shooting it. I also bought some factory J-bullets in Big Timber couldn't shoot them eather. The weather is starting to warm up now if work would slow down everything would be great. I could get to the range more.

"and could not pull the trigger," I liked that! Shoot sharp, Mike

Trapper My KAL TGBS .442" slick mold adjusted down to 1.2" throws one at 420 grs. Just about like the original Sharps ppb load. They used 75 grs of Fg behind that, an well a guy could start at 65 grs work up till it gets to the sweet pot. bobw

bobw, I have a slick .442 mould made by Steve Brooks. I never have cranked it down to see how light of a bullet it will throw. The lightest I ever casted was 500 grain. Looks like it is time to find out. Would a 405-420 grain bullet be sufficient for hunting deer and elk? I was just under the impression that heavier is better.

I've shot deer and bear with 420 grain paper patched bullets in a .45/70, using .45/75 loads, and found it to be plenty. More than enough. Shoot sharp, Mike

Thanks Mike,
I am going to give them a try. Where they round nosed or flat nosed?

The bullets have a small flat point but not like if they were made to be used in a repeater with a tube magazine. They looked a lot like Accurate Molds' #45-400T. Take a look at: http://www.accuratemolds.com/bullet_detail.php?bullet=45-400T-D.png

Trapper, Remember, one the most famous bullets for hunting with the .45/70 is the 330 grain Gould Hollow point, still made by Lyman, their #457122HP. But the light bullets are not "in the league" for long range shooting. Shoot sharp, Mike
