RE: Hartford front sight
Stephen.

There it is all mounted and test fired. I put it in the center of the flats and that is where it hit at 100, 185 and 200 yards.
I will leave it as it is. It shoots 6" low at 100 ladder down but this is not a problem I know where to put the blade above the rear sight. holding the flats of the front even with the top of the ladder down Lawrence makes the post a very pronounced silhouette to hold center at 100 yds. That is perfect for the way I like to hold the front blade. It is dead on at 185 yards with the ladder up and about 2.5" low at 200. I only threw a few rounds together like what I will use for the hunt and just shot three rounds per distance and none went over a 3" spread horizontal and 1-1/4" vertical.
If you haven't tried the 3F OE powder in the .44-77 you might give it a try.
I used a WLR primer
.023" card cut from a serial box above the powder and a 1/8" lube wad and one under the bullet. I left out the 1/16" cork for this load because I used 1/30 T/L alloy.
The bullet was of the original Sharps profile cast at 485 gr seated 1/8" in the case with a slight taper crimp from a 310 tool and die so I can carry it in a belt.
The powder load was 77 gr of 3F Olde Eynsford.
This load has been very reliable in the little .44 with the load combination above.

Stephen I want to thank you very much for this fine sight. I know you said that you don't want anything, but I will send you and the Family out for supper next weekend.

Kurt

The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

Very good Kurt. I've killed a dozen animals with that sight and really like it and I'm glad you like it too. No need to send anything for the family. I just want a picture of you and a dead buffalo to look at when you go in your hunt.

Thanks Gary. They are fun to build.

RE: Hartford front sight
Stephen I know that I don't but I want too just like you wanted to make this sight for me.
For your reference on the Shiloh dove tails. I have three I knocked out and one I gave to Don when he needed one. They all came out hard and the three I have in front of me measure at the base. The one I pulled out of the .44-77 measures .4496". The one that came out of the .44-2-5/8 bn .441". The one out of the .40-2.5 .4336".
This really is a surprise to me.

Kurt

Well here is the one I got last year with the .44-77 Smile Carolyn wanted to join in with this hunt and she still talks about it Smile

Kurt, When you work up a load with Olde Eynsford 3F in the .44/77 be sure to share the details with us other .44 shooters. Shoot sharp, Mike

Mike.

The load above isn't to bad. I only use the Lawrence and now the Hartford for sights on the .44-77 and it is shooting this load very well.
I have shot 3 shot test loads at 100 that touch and nothing over 4" at 200. checking out Stephens sight yesterday and today again.
But I have about 6 weeks before my hunt so I have time loading up some test loads before then.
But I doubt that it will improve much from the way it's shooting this combination with the 1/30 L/T with the 77 gr of 3F OE.
But I have time and I need to practice shooting off the hunting fork or walking stick I will be using.

That paper patch load looks like a champion, for sure. Keep us posted. Shoot sharp, Mike
