Walt was one heck of a nice fellow spending time talking to when ordering a mould.

The Current Lyman Postell looks nothing like the Original Postell, they a few years back, added the bore ride section just ahead of the front driving band.

In 20-1 the original Postel or 16-1, Get the Mould from NEI that is cut from an original Mould. It is one of the best performers in the 45-70 for Silhouette or Mid-Long Range. Shot myself twice into AAA many moons ago with this bullet in a 45-70.

NEI does make it a bit oversized on the Body .460-.461 use a harder alloy and size it too .458 for the Shiloh's its a turkey-Ram killing bullet. I still have a great steel mould in this bullet brand new, And No it is not for sale.

The aluminum blocks that Walt used did cast a larger diameter bullet than the Meehanite. Sometimes I think Walt forgot to add expansion when the aluminum blocks expanded a little more ? don't know for sure but the Ideal duplicated postell is right on. Even the new Lyman's have changed the base band some away from the originals. Originals had a very narrow base band.

It is a great bullet for sure Kurt, I have one of the old Steel (Meehanite) moulds brand new.

I had one I used a lot and ended giving it away to a guy that needed a mould and was short of funds buying one.

I just went and found some 45 bullets cast in my NEI aluminum mold. Yes they do cast large on the driving bands, around .460/.461, but the nose is at .450 as close to the first band as I can get with my mic and then tapers down. My .38 postel is the same way, the nose taper starts from the driving band. There is no straight area on either of the noses for these molds.
I don't feel that I have yet found the optimum load for the .37, but with the .45-70 I have managed to shoot 2 master class scores. I don't think that I can bitch about that at all.
