It's been a little quiet here lately so I will post one.

I just modified the throat in my .44-77 and loaded a ladder load with a .485 gr round nosed bullet and I had some old rounds loaded before I got the rifle with a BA postell bullet in new cases that have not been shot before. The greasers were gray from sitting for a long time.
I used a 25 ring 200 yd Scheutzen target at 200 yards and shot the PP test loads using 1.5 KIK and 2F OE first and the loads that shot well before the change still shot good after the change but the paper rings are gone.
At the end I shot up the few old greasers I to empty the cases on a fresh target. I made a few sight changes to get center and shot 10 more. 6 out of the 10 shots cut the center and 4 made the group with the last 10 shots fired 3" total. The 6 in the center all cut under an inch.
That load was 72 grains of 1.5 KIK win LR primers, OJ carton wad over the powder and a 1/16" cork under the bullet. The bullet was seated with all grooves covered and they fell right into the chamber.
Might have to heat up more of that 1/20 T/L alloy and make some more.

Going to send the roughrider up after thanksgiving for the 7* treatment. I liked the way the #3 shot right out of the box, but I don't know if I'll mistreat the bore on it with grease groove bullets or not.. I will give them fair run when the roughrider gets back home tho.

I had these greasers loaded before I got the rifle and shot some when I had the rifle with the standard chamber and it gave me a lead problem so they stayed on the shelf. Yesterday I took them to the range to empty the cases and they shot great and when I cleaned the rifle I had to look hard to see the few lead specks on the patch.

I'm hoping the 7* slows/stops the lead problem the roughrider has been having with greasers. I do think this original postel bullet could do real well maybe even at the 1 k line with the velocity that OE gives. But I'm of the mind that the #3 may never see a greaser in it's chamber..

It's awfully hard not to justify taking the extra time it takes wrapping and loading a PP bullet when they are capable of shooting like this.

When a PP will shoot like this @200 yards with calibers that most will say dont shoot as well as a .45-70 or some of the other popular calibers. Why do you want not to take the time loading paper patch.

Nice groups Kurt. I think that 44 2 5/8 is a real sleeper, that just needs to be woke up and put to work.

Don, all of my .44's are good shooters. The .44-77, 44-90bn, and the .44-100 st. All are capable of doing this and they have.

Now to build my High wall .44-70 Maynard Silhouette rifle ya I think I will shoot steel critters for something new to do

Kurt the nice thing about shooting the tin cans , there are a number of those shoots close to you, so the travel isn't such a big hassle.
I think that little 44 you have would be an ideal sillywet gun.

Hello Kurt, As long as you posted the 50 target can I ask what you were shooting? 473 grain with 100 grains of 1F or ?
