With all the fun I have been having with my little 38 I have decided to try out the 35-40 Maynard. I have already made my first purchase for my new project which happens to be the CH4D die set. My next acquisition will be a barrel. Most if not all 35 shooters are using a 10 twist. Lija does offer 35 barrels in a 9 twist though. So what do you guys think? 10 twist Douglas or a 9 twist Lija? I am estimating that my pre patched bullet diameter will be .345ish and I think I will shoot a bullet that is 1.45-1.46” long. I will wait until I have the barrel in hand to order a reamer and mould.

RE: Calling all 35-40 shooters
I don't know if Dan T's thread about his experiments with that using the 357 rem max case is still on the Shiloh forum or if it was one of those threads he had Kirk completely delete.
You might do well to talk to CO or Keith Lay about it, they both spent some time with that cartridge.

RE: Calling all 35-40 shooters
At one time I had thoughts for a .35-40. A friend has or had a rebareled Hepburn in the .35-40 caliber but I backed off because it might not have been NRA legal for silhouettes.
There was a discussion on Shiloh and I saved it. It took me a while to dig it out and I just re read it again. http://www.shilohrifle.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=21823

I was reading up on that a few days ago. 35-40 perfect legal for this. I think I am going to get my barrel ordered next week. Right now I am very much leaning towards a Douglas 10 twist. I think I will make it into a 3.5 profile half round 32” long

I don't know what the profile is on my Hep. It has a 30" 1/2 round barrel 1.125" at the breach and 7/8 at the muzzle and it's under 10lbs. With this little caliber could be a little lighter weight as mild as the recoil is.
I went out again and shot 30 rounds of 64 gr of 1.5 Swiss and it had a tendency to throw some out that I don't know if it was me or winds switching or a eye problem. I do have a problem with my eye fogging out that I have to look away from the scope to refocus after shooting a few rounds and it gets worse with the overcast day. I have been shooting with the opposite shoulder trying to make the switch from right to left hand but it's tough adapting to do this.

I have a few loads that I am going to try Sunday. I would like to verify the 63 grain load and I am also going to revisit the 62 grain load. The core group of the 62 grain load was Under an moa but there were 3 fliers. 2 I called but one I didn’t. I am hoping it was me and I suspect it was so we will give that load another chance to prove itself. Then I have a 64 grain load which is a ton of compression. I will see how these shoot and whichever looks good I will use that load for friendship this month.
