Might be good, might not
From the NMLRA board minutes of June 2019
President Hill discussed current relations with the NRA and their desire to pass shooting sport events to other. President Hill indicated the NMLRA would be interested in taking over Black Powder Target Rifle and that he would be working on a proposal to present to the NRA.

If that were to happen, we can only hope for the best. Perhaps we would get lucky for a change.

Maybe, Maybe not.
I can't figure for the life of me how NRA competitions can completely ignore a directive from the BOD that the BPTR National match will never go away no matter what,, and then turn around and do what they're doing...
I'm a bit apprehensive about the NMLRA, mostly due to what I see they've done to the Western Nationals in Phoenix a couple of years back..

I'm thinking supporting the fledgling BPTRA is our safest bet.

Personally, I'd like to see AZWINS and BPTRA come to some arrangement so our shooting the AZWINS matches in AZ in March will count in the BPTRA standings.

The AZWINS Matches are evolving. May be premature to suggest anything at this point other than growing the Phoenix event and following the evolution of BPTRA. Sometimes enthusiasm can work against success. No house is worth a hoot if the foundation is not solid.

One thing for sure, the future for BPTR looks to be somewhat secure, with the big AZWINS match, the fledgling BPTRA, and it will be interesting to see what the NMLRA does as they go forward.
Next couple of years sure have the potential to be interesting.

Logically that argument makes sense. True, there is great potential. However, remember this is America and politics has a way of afflicting any good plan. In America a crowd of two sparks a debate and adding a third results in an election. And, the best plan in the world can fail if plundered by poor execution. Right now it seems the best approach is tighten the cinch and ride to the range sponsoring the next competition and let the events speak for themselves. Success or failure tomorrow usually depends on the results today.

RE: Might be good, might not
I agree with that.
But with one major concern, and it might not be major to some,, If there is not a single governing body keeping the order in targets, distances, time limits etc, and the records of scores of each individual competitors activity, then target rifle turns into something akin to gong matches. Everybody goes has fun, but a couple of weeks later, there's no record to see who did what, and was there a national record set, met or beat.
My big concern with the NMLRA taking the lead control, is whether or not they will sanction matches at any place other than Friendship/Atterbury/Oak Ridge, if not then target rifle will die for lack of participation.
Having the BPTRA along with the NMLRA would not be a bad thing, as competition for consumers usually works out better for the consumer.
And should on the off chance NRA competitions gets their stuff together, and follows the direction handed to them by the board of directors, I maintain, there's still room for all 3. But the sanctioning body that gives the best service to the competitors will merge to the top.
