Ran some .22's
I planned shooting some .22's over the chronograph using a 28" and 24" barrels but the chronograph was to cold to pick up the rounds going over the traps so after reading Dons Ammo does matter I wanted to see how the match ammo compares to bulk.I ended up shooting 14 different types of boxes 5 rounds each it was on the cool side but not bad around 33 degrees but the winds were up 8 to 12 mph a little harder then I wanted to test the rounds at 50 yards so i moved the box to a Lazard 32 yards against a log and I never changed the sight settings after getting a zero. I used the MVA scope and shot off the bench. This was really not a good test to get the most out of these shells because I noticed the box wiggle from the wind several times and I held some shots till it settled down and I think some of the horizontal stringing might have been the box moving I didn't catch.
Here are the rounds I used.
#1 Norma match
#2 Norma TAC-22
#3 Win subsonic
#4 Rem Club XTRA
#5 Aguila rifle match
#5 SK rifle match
#7 Wolf match target
#8 Augila 22 target
#9 Rem golden bulk
#10 Rem yellow jacket hp
#11 Rem CB LV .22 shorts
#12 CCI CB
#13 Rem Target left over from early 1980
#14 black powder loads with Lyman cast bullet shot with out fouling control.
I just wish I could have checked the ES and SD while I was doing this.
All in all this CPA rifle seems to just about digest and what ever I feed it. I think the heavy Douglas XX barrel and chamber has some play in it's performance.

The target inside the black ring is ! 1/4" and the dot is 5/16"

Looks like 1,6, 7 and 8 are keepers in that rifle at that distance anyway.

#2 and #5 was a one hole till the last shot fired. It was dark enough today that even looking through the scope it was hard to see center especially when the shot broke just off center on the line I loose the cross hairs #13 I lost on the last shot also.
Any of the match or target ammo would work just fine but I wouldn't get another box of the #4 $20. Rem club xtra that is manufactured by Eley.

That sure looks good Dave. When you start cutting holes that just take the edge off the last shot you really don't want to go to the next shot in fear of blowing the group LOL.
I normally don't shoot less than 130 yards here at home and I have shot some very tight 10 shots at this distance on calm ,mornings you can cover with a dime with this rifle. That puts a lot of confidence in it and the ammo when you know it will do it when I need it to do it's best.

Next time i go to the ranch i'll run some groups with different cartridges just to see if there is any improvement over the CMP
I typically shoot RWS rifle match (yellow box) out to 100 yrds then RWS R100 on turkeys and rams---------both have performed to support master scores in the past

This is in my opinion a spotters game, much more so than big bore
one blip of wind missed is costly with itty bitty bullets Wink

Said it well there Dave, a mistaken high hit on the rams, called low, and a sight adjustment up and there goes the 10 pin Smile

RE: Ran some .22's
I think I will run all these rounds through again today if I get another coat of paint on the man cave. It's nice today with a sunny clear sky and 35 degrees right now and the wind mill is spinning pretty good guessing maybe around 10 mph or so to give these rounds a good test at 130 yards that will give me a better indication what will work for the iron critters. 35 yards is to close to get a realistic idea what the ammo is capable of doing.

RE: Ran some .22's
Well my shooting session fell through today. Done to much running getting stuff for the mole den in town to get at it but I stopped in at a sporting goods store and they had some Fed premium HV match, Fed Premium Target and some hard to find Fed premium ultra match that sells for $24.99 and it was on clearance for $14.97 so I picked up a box of this to see why everyone is raving about it.

RE: Ran some .22's
Ok I carried this out a little farther and added three new .22 cartridges, the Fed hard to find that some match shooters like to use the Fed premium UM, The Fed premium HV match and the Fed premium target.
Today I moved the target out as far as I could in my yard to 152 Lazard yards and I used a 2" orange paster with a black diamond I could not see in the shadows the target was sitting. Also I set up the chronograph graph again and this time it worked. I shot the Norma Match also.
The average 5 shot velocity and ES.

Norma match.......1023 fps....ES High...1038.2 fps.....low 1016.1 fps. 1.3/8" group
Fed premium UM.....1069.86 fps....ES High 1075.7 fps.....Low 1059.9 fps 1 1/8" group
Fed HV premium match.....1216.325 fps.....ES high 1216.325.....low 1212.5 fps 1 3/16" group
Fed premium Target....1091.98 fps....ES high 1105,9....low 1083.3 1 5/16" group.
The cost for the shells ranged from $ 6. to $15. the Fed UM that was discounted from $26. I don't see any reason to fork out the money for the high end when there is less then a 1/4" in the group size.
