In 1970, my wife and I ran a small gun shop in Las Vegas when, one day an old 73 Win came in with a questionable bore. I and a number of customers had read that article so I sent my good wife out to the pharmacy to secure a quantity of Blue Ointment to test its efficacy. She was no sooner out the door on her mission than I began to take flack from the loafers and hangers on who wanted to see what happened; both with the Blue Ointment and with my wife.
Shortly, my dear returned, red faced and steaming, having learned the medicinal purpose of Blue Ointment. I should have had her blow through the barrel in question as she would have cleaned it that way but it did not seem a good idea right then. She was very put out until I laughed at which point, the loafers found important business elsewhere. The guy with the 73 feared for the safety of his rifle and withdrew to parts unknown.
48 years having passed, my gracious bride has forgiven me but is still a bit touchy on the subject of lead removal.
