What opinion do you have for the Wolf primers? Have you used them in your black powder rifles also?

Kurt

Had very good results with them. In the last primer shortage my bench rest buddies used Wolf simply because they could get them & didn't feel slighted.

As Gary said they are a little large. They seat fine in my Federal brass but the PMC brass refuses a few.

RE: A Shooter
Yesterday I fired the rifle prone with the pulled bullets. I didn't use a sling & I've never trained to be a prone shooter so the results are what they are. I did purchase a mat & wanted to try it so I fired at 3 different targets, 2 steel & 1 paper which I photographed. Other targets included the 24" plate at 500 yards with I hit 2 of 5 shots. Anyway here are the pictures.

200 yard 8" paper plate, missed with 1.

300 yard 24" plate. I held center.

Next a 400 yard paper which someone left on the stand. I took 2 pictures but lost one somehow. I held on the top square. If you could see the complete target you would see 4 shots [missed completely with 1] strung vertically for 9". The group horizontally is less than 2". And if you could call this a group it would be centered 16 or 17 inches below POA using a 2" high @ 100 sight setting. It's hard to hold the tape & stay far enough from the target to get everything lined up correctly in the picture but the figures are close.

RE: A Shooter
Yes they are a tight fitting primer. I got two sleeves (12,000) when they first showed up on the market because they where so inexpensive less than a penny a piece. I use them mostly in the .40-70 because the 15 year old rem 30-40 brass are getting loose primer pockets but they are good primers I just don't use them in my brass that still have tight primer pockets.

At some point I will. The WC 844 though is the same in military dress unless I'm mistaken.

RE: A Shooter
The very best groups I have shot with my Colt M4 is 25 gn of H-335 and a 55gn FMJ Sierra bullet.
case necks are annealed, and case is sized in a std F/L size die.
Use a mag primer also--

An acquaintance of mine, I knew his father well...George Tubb....recently fired the HP matches at Camp Perry and he informed a buddy of mine that the rifle he used HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED for 2200 rounds! Owner of said rifle got beaten by one X!

So much for wearing out a barrel by running a rod through it!

RE: A Shooter
I can no longer sit and cast/load/roll bullets for hours like I could a couple of years back. Time catches up with everyone....eventually, so it's much easier/faster for me to reload SP cartridges today than the BPCR stuff that I have done for quite a while. Do I enjoy it as much as the BP rifles? I will have to admit to a YES! I started out in SP and I guess I shall end with it. Over the years I saw this day coming and while I was making good $$$$$ I had a couple of LR rifles put together by Jon Beanland out in Gould, Oklahoma; one a 6.5x47 Lapua and the other a standard 30/06. Both rifles are HAMMERS! I've shot both back to 1400 yards here on my place and both exceed my expectations...by a long way! Here's a 15 round group I fired from 1000 yards a while back with the 6.5:

Here's the rifle:

I have to get a grin on my face when I read or hear someone make a comment about the 30/06 being an old and worn out cartridge! With the powders and bullets that we have available today IMO the 30/06 is still the best all-around .30 caliber cartridge ever introduced by mankind! I used it when I was a teenager hunting deer and after entering the service and getting my hands on a National Match M1 Garand with Star air-guaged barrel....I appreciated it's accuracy even moreso! The rifle pictured below was also made up by Jon Beanland. I shoot 185 gr. VLD bullets through it using H4350 powder and F210M primers and it is very accurate out to 1400 yards. 1000 yards isn't much of a contest!
