Rimfire liners for our BPCR's

RE: Rimfire liners for our BPCR's
I had two Crossnos, Shot very well used them in my 45-70 and daughter's 40-65.

However: and I never see any thing posted on this, The shorter 22 barrel inside your Mirror finished Shiloh barrel, leaves a nasty spray on the barrel surface every time you fire it where the muzzle ends, a good many times and this stuff is hard to remove. It in effect, is sandblasting your barrel surface. I would suggest some arrow shaft of proper length to affix to the barrel and got the departure point of the spray and gases to out past the muzzle.

I had a dedicated 22 built, Kirk is busy and has yet to come up with a 22 Shiloh, So I went down the street and bought a 75 C Sharps Model 75 in 22 LR. Mainly the reason is to have a side hammer and the 75 can be had with a single set trigger. John S. and I had a pretty lengthy conversation on this as we have had issues many many years ago. He put in a SS trigger and shipped the rifle the day I ordered it. Due to the hard feelings on my part he set it with out Payment and after My FFL had looked it over and called me as he wanted one for him self! I called John and promptly paid him. John had stepped up to the plate so I did also, thats how I Roll (as my kids would say). The rifle shoots well but it took a bit to find the ammo it likes to suit me for accuracy level, I am pretty picky. I have won several matches with it and have placed well every time out with it except this past May at Alliance. I tried a lower stool (thought more stable for the sitting match) Due to some hip and neck injuries I can not sit on the ground as My right leg falls asleep in a matter of moments and it is quite and I mean quite painful. I never do well in a sitting match, and mainly why I dislike and seldom shoot gong matches anymore. Lack of safety rules and a close miss just a few years ago, was the straw that broke that back for me on the Q.

Prone now: the rifle is used for cheap 200 yard practice on Long range reduced targets, and BPCR 22 Silhouette this rifle is a winner. At 200 yards though I have yet to find ammo that I like but after this years NRC matches I have some good leads, it seems that at 200 with a 22 is much like 1000 with a big bore BPCR. Funny thing is I got beat by using my 1068 fps Eley Match by guys using 1147 Fps ammo. Of course it was very windy.

THX Kenny for your time on that.
The question about the muzzle crud from the .22 liner is a concern of mine also. You are the first to post this concern in that it can't be good for the Shiloh's bore.
When funds come around. I think I will do as you did and have a .22 built.
What .22 ammo does yours like best?
If you get a chance, could you post the specs for your .22?

Don't know if Ron Long is still building anything or not , but the short liner was one of his complaints and so he built his liners to the length of your barrel.
I think you can mitigate some of the powder sanding by giving the barrel a heavy coat of Borebutter, but it does need to be repeated often during a long firing string.
I am awfully partial to my winchester lowall, there are alot of those Miroku built guns floating around at the various 22 shoots anymore.

I have Crossno liners for both my 40-65 and 45-70 and they both shoot fine.
As for the barrel fouling, I machined a tube from Delrin to fit down the barrel to the liner that has a .250 bore. It's .450 on the O.D. so it's snug in the bore and has to be tapped in place.
There is a step on the end for a stop that extends past the muzzle .500 so you can get hold of it to pull it out.

Steve thats a hell of a good idea. Are you inclined to make those for other folks? I think it might be a great seller for folks.

Gary I know of a couple of "big" rifles that were turned into designated 22's using the crossno liner and modification of the extractor so that the liner was installed so the rifles extractor would kick the spent cartridge out without disturbing the liners position once installed.

Don,
I suppose I could.
How about a survey to see how many would want one?

Gary, My 1875 likes the Eley Team the best Heart and a slight nod to Eley Match Osp. However Like I said @ 200 yards they both tend to fall apart in windy conditions. This ammo runs in the 1056 to 1068 fps range. The Guys at the NRC matches that were kicking butt and taking names, all were shooting ammo in the 1147 fps range. This mirrors my findings in BPCR Long range, steady mild conditions a 45-70 at 1140-50 does well at long range, However the harder the conditions are they tend to fall off real fast: case in point look at the Winter Nationals Phoenix, Day 1 very tough conditions ( the whole week was actually). Top 4 shooters day one with spotters, 1st 45-100, 2nd 45-100, 3rd 45-100, 4th 45-110.Idea

I have some Remmington Target at 1150 fps that is Eley cases and primed, with a remmington Target bullet. Initial Load tests at 50 yards showed it to be almost as good as the team for accuracy, I plan on testing it in the next day or two at 200 here and it most likely will end up being my Ram Load for the 22 BPCR Nationals. Bryan Youngberg and I both plan on doing some sight in testing At Raton this coming Friday afternoon. Before the Matches start on Saturday. This rifle hates every type of Federal match I have tried in it.

One thing I have found these rifles are picky once you find a type of ammo that it likes stick too it.

The Rifle is C Sharps standard match 1875 22 with the additon of a Single Set Trigger.

Kenny is that the regular remington target stuff or is it the high dollar ammo?
There's so dang many levels and varieties of "target" ammo it blows my mind....
