Since the local paper has become too "international" to print the local matches, I'll send them here.
Coker, “Big Fifty” Win
Buz Coker, shooting a 50-90 buffalo rifle, often termed the “Big Fifty” narrowly beat Dave Gamble to win the monthly Long Range Match under very trying wind conditions. Coker had 19 hits out of a 30 shots, one more than Gamble’s 18 hits shooting a 45-70. Elwyn Brunner was right behind with 17 hits for third place. Fourth place was garnered by Joe Corley with 12 hits, and 4 shooters wound up with 11 hits, Randy Stennerson, Al Lee, Gary Campbell and Brian Schwend, finishing in that order by virtue of most hits on the longest target. Kenny Boschee was high scope shooter with 13 hits.
Top shooter on the 800 yd target was Buz Coker with 10 of 10 hits, Dave Gamble and Gary Campbell were high shooters on the 900 yd target with 5 hits apiece and Buz was high shooter on the 1000 yd target with 5 hits.
A 1,200 yd Buffalo shoot was held following the regular match. Gary Perkins after a disappointing LR match due to scope problems came back to claim high overall score with 5 hits out of 10 tries . Elwyn Brunner and Buz Coker tied for 1st and 2nd in the open sight class with 4 hits apiece and Joe Corley and Randy Stennerson tied for 3rd and 4th with 3 hits apiece.
Also shooting were John Olson, Pat Menahan, Jess Wilkerson, Doug Portra, John Hartwick, Glen Kaptizke, Jeff Morrison, Chuck Laakso, Brian Schoof and Walt Fasch, all traveling from places afar to shoot at the Lee Ranch Buffalo Target Range.
Spotting for the shooters were Pat Corley, Pat Brunner, Mary Gamble, and Dan Curry.
Shooters retired to Fitzgerald’s for refreshments and strategy planning for next weeks 22 Rimfire and Pistol Cartridge match on Saturday and the Buffalo Rifle match on Sunday.
