RE: Buffalo Bob
Shoot lost my post, try again . My good friend Larry went to the Sandhills last weekend with my All Business Rifle in 45 2 7/8 and shot his spike at 95 yds ,in behind the right frt leg and out thru the left .Heart shot and dead pronto. Used the load I posted above. He had a good time and did fine for a guy who has only shot that rifle 20 times or so prior to the hunt. Rick and Doris fed him well and showed him a good time. Rick took him back out to the buffalo silhouette for some extra shooting with Rick's Ped Sharps in 45-90 and got him on at 350 and 805 in a pretty stout wind. Be my guess we have another BPCR shooter added to the ranks. Edit: for those who want to know the buff was shot on friday 2/1/13 and the taxidermist said the hide is still fine for a hair on tan job. He is also doing a euro mount same as mine. The cold weather and low temps have alot to do with how long they stay prime. bobw

RE: Buffalo Bob
After I shot the buff and got back home I had a taxidermist do a euro mount on the skull. He didn't have time or room to tan my robe for me, but did recommend fleshing and salting to dry it. He said it would keep that way for awhile or I could box it and send it to Moyle Mink and Tannery in Idaho for tanning they would do a good job for $400. That's what I did, sent it January 25 and got it back today $425 total incl shipping both ways. Well tanned ,soft, pliable and great hair. It covers my old leather couch giving it another lease on life. Looks great. For guys thinking about a buff hunt and a robe with prime eating you don't need to go farther than Rick and Doris Hamilton's Sandhills Outfitters and Moyle Mink & Tannery of Heyburn, Idaho. bobw

Thanks for the good info Bobw! I ended up tossing my buff's hide and head last year. I wanted to get the hide tanned at the place you recommended but i had a hard time attempting to flesh the hide without a fleshing too or fleshing board. I even tried a drill with a wire disk. Gave up and into the garbage can. Maybe in another 5 years i'll give it a try again. My sis got me a fleshing knife for Christmas last year!

RE: Buffalo Bob
One of the really deluxe features of Rick Hamilton's Sandhills Outfitters hunts is after your buffalo is down and Rick has helped you with pictures (he is a pro Photographer)he climbs a tall sandhill and calls his better half to bring out their retrieval system. The system is smart,Ford Explorer pulling a 2 axle trailer with an electric winch on it, a ramp for the back end and 2 minutes later your buffalo is loaded and on the way to a processer in Valentine, Nebr. 90 minutes up the road.Rick has found it takes an hr to field dress them out in the sand and cold and it's time better spent going down the highway to have it done by a pro.Cause that is where they will reduce your buffalo to butchered and pkg status. Those people at the processers are good at what they do and charge a very reasonable fee for their service. My hide and Larry's were so well skinned that only minimal fleshing was required before salting. Yeah I will do it again. bobw
