Shooting a lot less then the mile

Tongue  Shooting a lot less then the mile
I got to shoot in the backyard again this past Saturday, 80 yards. I am trying to find a comfortable and stable sitting position. My belly makes that pretty difficult so I've been sitting on a short stool. Of course this is not a very stable position without one of my elbows resting on my knees so I'll have to experiment with the stool height, making it just high enough for comfort but low enough to allow another point to rest my elbow on.

I made a bunch of changes for this outing...probably shouldn't have. I used my own cast un-weighed bullets (not sorted), changed to Win LRP vs the Win LPP I was using, otherwise it's the same 70gr 2f KIK, Lyman 457132, .026 card wad. It took me a number of shots to settle down and get comfortable but then they seemed to cluster just to the left of center. The far left flier was the fouling shot.

I've since cast more bullets and sorted them into three weight groups. I will also be trying out some veggie wads instead of my current card wad.

Willy you want to get the rifle out on the sticks as far as you can to help add a bit of stability. It is awful hard to keep those round barrels from sliding around in crossticks tho.
Looks like a bit mor trigger time and those groups will tighten up even more.

Thanks Don,

Yes, I really don't have much trigger time. Takes me 10 shots just to remember what I was doing wrong the last time Smile

Towards the end of the string I did sit further away from the sticks and leaned forward a bit which did seem to provide more stability.

I'm home next week and hope to get back to the range and try my luck again at the 100 and 200yd ranges.

Willie , one of the things that is real important ,is developing a consistent cheek weld . If your head is always in the same spot your sights will always be aligned the same , this has always been a problem of mine as my astigmatism always makes me shift to clear up my sight.
I put a small piece of tape on the top of the stock and forced myself to put my cheek back to the spot every time , it helped to train me a lot.

Thanks! Weather permitting I'm going to shoot on Saturday and I will pay attention to cheek weld and try the tape trick.

Wink  RE: Shooting a lot less then the mile
I tried some reloads with veggie wads, forgot about the tape trick so I didn't work on my cheek position. I did seem to have a better, more stable sitting position today and my group was better. The upper left shot was the fouling shot.

Plus here's a clip from my shooting session today.

Yea, I felt better today. Considering I've only ever shot about 200 rounds in my life at a target where I'm actually shooting for accuracy I think I'm doin' ok. Now if I could only really retire and shoot every day Smile
