.38 cal energy
all,
With the increasing popularity of .38 cals for BPCR, what is the minimum energy needed to reliably knock down the rams ?

Cheers, Steve

My 360 grain bullets going 1350ish fps takes them down no problem but I’m not sure what a minimum would be.

RE: .38 cal energy
Anyone want to wager if these 260 grain pills with 47 grains of Swiss 1.5 will kick a ram over?

Big Grin how does that little babe do at the chicken line for accuracy?
That would be a fine bullet for my 13 year old Grand Daughter to move up from her .22.

That can of Swiss in the background, what is the lot number?
I just got a supply from BA yesterday of lot 07-04-2021 and shot the first ladder loads today. I can only get 63 grains in my cases flush with the case mouth. That is 3 grains less than my last lot with the sane volume and todays accuracy load was 58 grains at no compression. and it was not the best.
I loaded a new batch with a different primer tonight to see if things look bettering in the morning.

I have not had a chance to shoot any of them. I made some to try at Alma in a couple weeks. I have will see how they do. They are patched about .002 under groove diameter. That lot of 1.5 is a 2019 lot. I bought 55 pounds of it at the friendship regional last year.

It will be interesting to see how it does. I like the short radius of the ogive on it.

I was hoping to be able to get to Alma but other things needing attention going on are keeping me shut down.

The little 260 grain pills exceeded expectations. I wish I would have brought my labradar to see what speed they were going but they hit exactly where I call the shots. 5 chickens Friday 3 Saturday and 5 Sunday. I am happy happy happy.

One thing the Ram or other steel target Knockdown requirement is that it
is really more about the bullet Momentum at the targety, and less so, the (kinetic) Energy.
Momentum: Mass x Velocity
Kinetic Energy : 1/2 Mass x Velocity squared
