2021 Year in review
I was going to post this and the end of December but on the 25th me and my wife got the COVID. It was a tough 7 to 10 days but we made it through it. In 2021, shooting for me was probably my best shooting season to date. Not because I shot that well, but because of the matches and the people I shot with. I have had BPCR rifles for over 20 years but until 2015 I had never shot any of them in a match. I had just been shooting these guns here on my property, and in that last 20 years I was following the BPCR and BPTR competitions in forums, in magazines and on the internet. I would read any book I could find. In that 20 years I had 2 things I definitely wanted to do before I get too old and that was to shoot a match at Raton New Mexico and to try my hand at a BPTR 1000 yard match. I got the privilege to do both in 2021.
In May, I went to Lodi and shot their long range match. I still am in awe of that match. My 45-70 faired well and being in 1st place out of 22 shooters at 1000 yards on the 1st day of shooting is still hard to believe. I have did a lot of things in my 52 years of living and at the top of my list of words spoken to you in a match, there is nothing that compares to Jim Kluskens telling you that you’ve hit an “X” as your laying on the matt after firing a shot for score. I ended up 3rd overall at 1000 yards and 8th overall on the weekend at all distances. Again, It’s hard for me to believe, but now that I know I can do it, I know I will return to Lodi again someday in the future. Thank you Jim for all your help and the push to attend that match. I’ll never forget it.
In July, on my birthday no less I went to Raton to shoot for 5 days straight. 3 days at the 22 BPCRA National match and 2 days at the International BPCR match. Again I will never forget that trip. I shot very well in the 22 match and got 8th in AAA, which is dam good for me because I don’t shoot the 22 matches and just threw the CPA in, if I wanted to shoot that match.
In the 3 days of shooting the 22 match, my 1st day was just tying to test different ammo on animals to see what would work in my CPA the best, so my 1st days score was a 31, but I had figured out the ammo. 2nd day was a 44 and 3rd day was a 41. I will be shooting my CPA a lot more in 2022 and I’m headed to Raton again in July this year.
Hopefully 2022 will be a memorable year again, If not, I can’t complain.
See some of you in 2022 at a match.
