I tend to use a longer bar then what my saw is rated for so I don't have to bend over to much on a downed tree. I just don't cut anything that the saw cant handle with it's rated bar.
I watch were most of the weight is sticking out on the tree and if the path is good that is were the tree will land.
I used to hang in the tree with a rope and trim the limbs I don't want the tree to fall when I make the cut, but this is not going to happen anymore.
I have had my times also felling a tree that did not work out to well. Big Grin
