Slightly off black powder, 22 hornet brass
I know someone on here must shoot a hornet. Well, to keep it legal, at least part of the time I'll be using an 1885 Browning.

Now to the question...... I bought a fairly large quantity of once fired WW brass. I'm planning on a full length resize the first time since I have no idea what the original chamber was. From then on, since I'm shooting it, I'll neck size only.

Is it worth it to anneal it?

Gus,

Win brass is pretty soft. If it's really just once fired I don't think I would anneal it.
If you do just don't crimp it to tight.

Gussy. 100% legal. The.22 Hornet started out as the.22 WCF, a black powder round.

Someday I want to get one of those CZ rifles in 22 hornet.
As thin as that brass is I don't think annealing it would be a great idea.

As is normal, I'm finding stories both ways on the internet. But, I'm not a trusting person of keyboard experts. Though some here actually used one and had experience. I've had one for a long time, just be haven't shot it enough to go through a lot of brass.

I have the original 300 pieces of Remington brass and lucked into over 1000 pieces of WW at a very low price, couldn't pass it up

What l did see fairly regularly and made sense was only neck size. I have a new Lee neck sizer collet die.

I think I'm going to take a hundred of the Remington and anneal. I'll find out which works. They have at least 3 loadings now.

Cabin fever setting in. 30 degrees but I thought it was time to put on the gloves and heavy clothes and get out there!

I've never shot anything below 40 gr in the Hornet. I bought a box of 30 gr Barnes varmint bullets to see if they would shoot good. I wasn't disappointed! Used H110, 10.5-11.1 grains as noted on the target. Only one over 1\2" @ 50 yds and I pulled that one on the second target.

I didn't get any sand bags out, just pulled the portable bench over to the 50 yd target lane and used the front rest of the lead sled.

That little hornet looks like it has an appetite for anything you feed it.
I should dig a couple of my bolt rifles out and warm the barrels. I don't have to freeze the fingers wiping between shots with them.
The last time I shot one we had an egg shoot and I used the .308 but I used shells that have been sitting since the 80's and I had to bump the bullets in the seating die to break them loose. They all snapped when the pressure hit them. But they hit 5 for 5 at 200 yards with no problem.
