1879 Rolling Block Range Report

I went to the range yesterday to celebrate Independence Day because I am working today. Took the 43 Spanish Rolling Block and 10 rounds to test @ 100 yards. I was pleasantly surprised with the group. I shot 2 foulers off the target to warm things up and then shot the group. Now I will load some more and see how it does @ 200!

I'd say that rifle is a "shooter"! Nice looking rifle. I wish I could see the sights as well as you.

That is a nice flat line group. The first black powder cartridge rifle I got back in 1954-5 from the NRA was a .43 just like yours but I never got it to shoot that good, But it only cost $12. out of the back pages of the Rifleman magazine

have to give that barrel a wack with rubber hammer to get it back on line. had to do it to mine as barrel was bent from bayonet practice??!! barrels are very soft. Vic

I think I will try a shim under the rear sight first before I get the hammer out!!!

NICE rifle and a great group! Glad that you had a chance to go out and fire it.
Hoping to do the same with my original 1859 Sharps soon....
I'd work with the sights first before hitting anything with a hammer..

Here is the group from 200 yards shot yesterday. I started with 10 rounds, but it took 5 to get on target. Long story short, I used the 100 yard setting and used a 12:00 sight picture to get close to the middle of the target. It was a little switchy breeze from 6:00. I think that the elevation is ok.
