Trying out the Shiloh

RE: Trying out the Shiloh
Kurt I think in cartridges that generally use less than 90 grains of powder the standard weight barrel is the way to go. But when the powder charge reaches 90+ the heavier the barrel the more manageable it becomes. The 40-90 is a classic case in point. With it's standard weight barrel the recoil isn't bad, but the muzzle jump is horrific. I think a heavy weight barrel in that cartridge it would make a great long range gun. Those standard weight barrels also heat up a bunch more.

"The older wheel weights work good for a lot of grooved and slick bullets, but I don't have much of that left and am saving it for a rainy day."
Thanks Don,
I found hundreds of ingots of wheel weight lead my Dad had at his house when we cleaned up over there last month. These are from years and years ago. I didn't know I could use it for anything since it's not 1/20. I'll melt down some ingots and cast them in my pp mould and see how they do. Who knew?

If I recall properly a little over 15 years ago Dennis Wiley set a national record at the bptr nationals shooting wheel weight bullets. The old ones like you have are about right for most things bpcr and handgun's

Lawdy, lawdy, Miss Claudie, calls for a brand new calibrated range finder then, and, if those distances are even remotely close to being correct you can logically divest yourself of several irons cluttering up your man cave and I think I can help out with that chore.

Big Grin Yup those distances have been checked and rechecked. 500 meters. Heck I might even be able to hit a ram or two in a match now.Tongue
Need to get some wind flags up one of these days.

And I'm really looking forward to my Decot shooting glasses showing, up, wonder how things will go when I can see the targets. Smile
