RE: Paper Patch Bullet for 44-77
I have 2 of those GM barrels,17 twist, they are the older cut rifled barrels and I have checked them with gage pins. I am told that they are .438- .446 now that they hone them. They are .436-.446, one is on a pedersoli sharps and the other is a blank. Being .005 deep I don't use paper patch, but with a custom mould it shoots lights out with greasers. The sharps was built by Jerry Vanwey at Raton.

Don't go deeper then .004" My best shooting barrels have a .003" deep groove.
With the 17 rot a elliptical will work fine. Rick at KAL up in Canada made a .432" X 1.460" long that drops out at 504 gr that is the best shooting bullet for my 1/17 ROT Krieger barrel. I use it for the .44-75 Ballard and the .44-100 Rem st also in the 19 rot .44-90 BN Shiloh.
Where can I find a barrel like that. Even the badger barrels from Buffalo Arms are .005

John, I have a barrel with those dimensions and it will shoot a paper patch bullet just fine, but you need to run a bullet that is no more than .004 under groove diameter before patching.

Thanks. I’m new to paper patching. Trying to get everything in line as best as I can.
