40 70 SS brass
I'm looking for 40 70 SS brass. anyone have any ideas where I can get some?
and...
If I have to go to 30 40 craig, how do I make 40 70 SS from 30 40 ?

I can get Bertram, but I hear it's not so good..

thanks..Ken

You can also go with 405 winchester brass and trim it to length

RE: 40 70 SS brass
Ken.,

I would stay away from the Bertram brass. I ordered 60 cases when I got my .40-70 Shiloh and I think I have less then 20 left. That stuff split length wise after a few reloads. The .405 hornady brass needed to get the base swaged down to fit the Shiloh chamber and the case neck needed to be turned down if a GG bullet was to be used, but it is very good for a PP bullet when you get the base swaged down to fit the Shiloh chamber. I cut the base of a resizing die down and used a brass pin to get the cases out of the die but it is good brass for the PP bullet because the thickness the case mouth is. I ended up getting several hundred .30-40 stretched cases from Buff Arms and I'm still using it since 02 and only lost a few from mistakes reloading them.
One option is getting .30-40 cases and get a case stretching die and work some cases up if Buff Arms or Track of the wolf don't have any in stock.
Or if you have the rifle and don't have brass to load some up I can send you some cases till you can get some from Jamison and send my cases back when you get done with them.
I would be more then happy to get you up and going.

RE: 40 70 SS brass
On my 40-70SS that used.
the stretched 30-40brass That you can't get anymore I had a gunsmith fit the chamber for captech brass, made the rim .005 larger and .005 deeper and use captech for greasers and Hornaday for paper patch.
