Discovery !!!!
So I am a left handed right eye dominate shooter this has never caused me any grief with shooting or playing guitar. I have always instinctively picked both up right handed with zero difficulties with either.
That changed with paper patching bullets,I have only played with one mold for one rifle with notable disagreeable results, very poor with all things considered.Since I came to this forum and Mr.McDowells tutelage I made a major discovery tonight, following Don's directions on dry patching I learned that I was wrapping backwards, yes backwards, the left handiness crept in and has had me doing the wrapping backwards. I feel really dumb as I have attempted p.p.ing for some time with poor results.Pretty sure I should see a naked improvement on the target,I am so pleased to be informed of this as I think things will improve. I will never wet patch again despite doing it backwards it is easier for me. Backwards Bo, my new name for myself.

RE: Discovery !!!!
Well now to see how they shoot.
BTW that bullet looks exactly like the .400 diameter I use.

Brooks P.P. adjustable mold, it's the only design he advertises on his web page.,straight or tapered. I am excited now to shoot the new and improved. Thank you Don for all you do for us greenhorns.

Aw shucks Randy, I just spout about what I know has worked for me,, glad to share it and hope it works as well for others.

I like those Brooks adjustable moulds. I have 2 of them one for the 44's and one for the 45's. KAL makes good ones also.

Randy , that looks nice. I wish I could dry P-P that well I would do itt a lot more.
By the way Don could you give me the dimensions for your tank buster bullet and who made the mould for the .44. I would like to try it in my 44/70.
Thanks
Bill

RE: Discovery !!!!
Bill it's Brook's dual diameter sharps bullet in a nose pour. I had him make the diameter on this one at .436. The nose length is about .825, with an as cast diameter at .428.
The first one of those I got was from Old West, it has a base diameter at .435
If you're not in a hurry , next time I cast a batch of those I can send you some. What is the twist in your rifle? I also have some .435 bullets from a Brooks mould that are straight sided with his original postel nose that are 1.3 inches long, and will stay stable in the 19 twist shiloh uses, and I have the .434-480 I asked BACO to build that will shoot well in a 17 or faster twist.

RE: Discovery !!!!
Randy I see no wrong with either right or left wrapped on those two bullets other then the bottom shell the paper is on the low side of the ogive and might get a little bare lead exposed to the bore.

That looks like the same bullet I had Steve make for me with the copy I made with the lathe of a original bullet I copied from a .44-90 BN sharps round.
Below is the bullet I sent him.

RE: Discovery !!!!
If I wrapped to the left I was getting the tag end sticking out way from the bullet unless I wet wrapped and then sometimes they would not stay put. With wrapping to the right the tag end ends up underneath the base thus securing it, those are my observations for what it's worth.I also found I could align and be straighter, yes some came out short I will pull them and start over, still need the practice. It was a significant improvement over my previous attempts with more consistency.
I thank all of you for the consistent wise council.
We have another strong spring storm approaching with 6-10" or 12-15" of snow expected depending on who guessed right so plenty of time to practice.

I hope that snow and cold is gone by the time it travels this far. All of the Apple and peach trees are in full bloom.
Just flip your patch over to match the direction you want to wrap.
