Coming over to Dark side

Travel on Dark side II Well this past weekend we attended another, BP only, Silhouette match with “Lucy” the 40-65. Each of the two shoots so far have been experimental. First attempt was using wipe between shots method. This last Saturday the same GG bullet #410655 was used but with new lube . Lube was switched from hard smokeless type to softer lube that was applied with dip method. The bullets were then passed through the Lee 0.410 push thru die. In addition a source of 1/8” Camels Wool felt was found and wads punched out of same. These were also dipped in the melted lube and allowed to cool. The load consisted of 60 gr. Weighed GOEX FF. After dropping through 30 inch tube in case it was covered with fiber wad and compressed using a die an additional 0.300” The Starline brass were primed with Fed. 215 primers. I placed a fiber wad over powder for compression, then the felt lube wad, and a paper disk between bullet base and the lube wad. The 410655 is seated with one GG showing and so first band is against the rifling. All this R&D resulted in a load that proved able to be fired with wiping only between banks. One caveat is that this required using a blow tube and two big puffs between shots. I’m not counting this as full success yet. A better idea will be had after further shoots as the humidity at Alma was quite high. In fact, we enjoyed a brief range delay while a few rain squalls passed over. I shot the same low “B” score as before but indeed my fun meter was pegging ? As always a great group of people are found at this shoot. Even our friend Kurt and lovely wife were on firing line. One item that made my day was at the Trade and sale table. I found a 40 caliber Press mounted wad cutting die at very reasonable cost. It was put together by machinist with eye for right materials and measurements. I have been in search mode for a Cornell in same caliber with little luck. Once the stem was slightly modified to fit my RCBS Rock Chucker Press ram it is now popping out wads like pop corn ? Now “Lucy” has yet more experiments to test.

It was good to see you and your shooting partner again at Alma as always it was a good match. I hope you made it home in fine shape. I avoided the construction east of Gary Indiana and went farther south before turning west to miss that mess and maybe I should just grid my teeth and went that way anyway because I got rear ended at a stop light anyway by a shiny black continental that just scuffed my powder coated bumper with her paint on the gypsy wagon but it folder her hood back as well pushing her grill into the radiator. I just don't like going East. I would not even think of heading in that direction if I didn't like the Alma matches and shooters so well. Great bunch!!

Not sure but I think 34 or 35 showed up for the two day match. We had some pretty mild conditions for a change except for a rain shower that moved in on Saturday that shut the line down for a while till you could see the rams again and Sunday was just a exceptional day were I never made a wind change during a relay. Very unusual for this range.
