RE: 44-77 Sharps paper patched load
Thank's for the offer Kurt! I'll do just that. This rifle is a barrel iron sight, one load, hunting and occasional steel banger. I went with this Brook's bullet based on correspondence with Stephen and Orville and it is about exactly like the one they use except for a slightly larger meplat. Want it to hit deer and elk hard! Things tightened up a bunch with the switch to 2 fg OE. Noticed that when I bring up a wee bit to much front blade it does show up on the target! I'll keep working with those sights. On steel I'm going to concentrate on the largest target at distance and just get a good zero for each range and see if I can hit with it to 5 or 600 yards. If I find the load, with my eye's, 200 yard boiler room deer and elk will be just fine. Plinking steel we will run it as far out as possible. "Lucrezia", my 50-90 is getting a bit peeved and I'll have to take her out next range day!

Eric have you tried wiping the exposed portion of the patch after the round is loaded with jojoba oil?

Not yet Don. Recovering from surgery and crappy weather has limited my range time. Feel good now and when the weather improves, I'll be spending much more time on the range. Lots of Sharps rifles to work with. I'll continue where I left off last season and burn plenty of powder again this year! I did notice on the Powder Incorporated site that OE is now available in 1 fg so I want to try it with "Lucrezia" this season. Now to more bullet casting!!

I would like to try some of the 1f, but I'm hesitant to buy enough by it's self to try it.

The next case I order I'll include 5 pounds of OE 1 fg. If it does not work with Lucrezia I'll burn it up in a 2&7/8 inch 10 bore hammer gun. The Big Greener really likes 1 fg and 1&1/4 oz loads. I have a couple of pounds of KIK which works nicely and then found out that KIK is no more.......Well, I'm always the last to know. Greener seems to like it so it will not go to waste. Right now I'm loading Swiss and Lucrezia is like a hog in the mud with it.

I would think that 1f to work like a champ in the big cases, and might even work quite well in the bottlenecks. I ordered a case of powder just before the first of the year, and was advised the 1f was coming, but opted not to wait... I'll stumble in to some somewhere this year, if not I'll throw a couple of cans in the next order.

Now Donny Ray
, couple pounds 1F might do for a 38-50, the 44-77 is close to the 43 Spinach and it takes about 5 pounds 1F to decide to go back to 2F for that one.

No it won't take that long,, I have the biggest part of a can of 1f Schuetzen , that only took about 10 rounds for the rifle to tell me you keep feeding me this crap and I'm just gonna lay down and die...

Oh really? Won't knock a rock off the brow of the berm huh ? Tongue

Split an upright maybe ? Rolleyes

Don't know about the 44-77 but in the 45-70 in Trapdoors if you don't seriously compress 1F Swiss you wont meet the accuracy potential of the rifle. Maybe same goes for Schuetzen? Have some 1F KIK but have not gotten around to trying that as it is no longer available. No luck with 1F in other cartridges except the 40/70 SS which went down the road in favor of a 40-65 which wasn't nearly as particular as to what it would shoot well. Each rifle seems to be a little different as to what it likes.

Keep on slingin' rocks!RolleyesRolleyesRolleyes
