4070 SS and idea that worked
For those of you following my posts about getting my Original 40 70 SS Sporting rifle to shoot, I think I found a trick.

I cleaned out the bore with some Valve Grinding compound.
I put [b]Very little on a Flannel patch, wet.
A few Full length draws, breach to muzzle. Clean patch and do it again. Then clean out thoroughly. . Smoothed the bore???

The Load. 57 1/2 Swiss 1 1/2, 55W paper patch.
Mag primer. .060 Walters wad, drop tube, but No compression.
(I actually used the head of the compression die, made a collar with a set screw, and just seat the wad by hand with this. EZ to use and you can feel it.) and I used both the 390 Brooks nose pour and the new 330 grain Hotch mould. Both duplicate the original 40 70 SS loads.
7 shot 1+1/2 inch group at 50 yards with the 390
5 shot 1+/3/4 inch group with the 330.
Then I did them both again with the same results.
I'm using the Distant Thunder Hunters tang, (duplicates the originals) and Have a DT Globe on order. Should get tighter groups than the open post. Ah, the Journey!
