Hey Sarge, Let me put it this way, if Uberti's were made in the USA, we couldn't afford them. The way the stocks are fitted to the '73s is generally superb and the finish would be difficult to improve upon. Of course, there are options to the finish, from antiqued to very deep blue plus color casehardening. Look down the list of style and finish options shown on the Buffalo Arms website. I have three of them at this time, all in .44/40. A picture of my favorite is attached and the short magazine versions are hard to find because they are not popular with the cowboy action shooters. I've considered putting a tang sight on this gun, just haven't gotten around to it. I also have an original Winchester Model '92 carbine in .44/40, which I used to tag a buck with back in the '80s, and my C. Sharps Arms low-wall. The low-wall is the best shooter but we should expect that, it has the best sights. I thought about getting a Henry too but just for a little while. The '73s with their dust covers, loading gates, and forearms are a lot more inviting. If I want a Yellow Boy it will be a '66, probably a rifle, but to get one will only duplicate what I already have in the '73s. Anyway, I find the Uberti '73s very easy to recommend and I do like the guns from Cimarron Arms because I appreciate their printing on the tang and the barrel, very timely and favorable.
There is one thing I don't care for about the current Uberti '73 carbines and that is the way the front sight is mounted to the forward barrel band instead of to the barrel. Previously the Uberti carbines did have their front sights mounted to the barrels, behind the forward band, and those can be found by looking at used guns, perhaps on GunBroker. Often a short rifle is more tempting than a carbine. Shoot sharp, Mike

That old Marlin is the big surprise in how well it shoots. Especially when I think back to the condition it was in.

A 250 pound field dressed white tail is a good sized buck. It largest I have ever taken was 232# field dressed and it was a shore to drag out of the creek bottom where he dropped.
