New Accurate Mold ordered
Too much time on my hands with this weather so I looked at Tom's site and noticed the 45-485XR. Tapered bullet 45/447/439, 485 cast from Wheel Weight alloy. Looks like it would work in my 45 70 Shiloh standard chamber for dirty shooting. Cast with 20 or 25 to 1 maybe a little over 500 grains and should be able to seat well in fire formed cases. I'll post a report when I get a chance to run it at the range. (Don, I am also a member of the mold of the month club. Really should post for sale some of them I no longer have rifles for!)

Guilty as charged. I've heard that admitting is the first step to recovery.

RE: New Accurate Mold ordered
Received the Accurate Mold 45-485XR and had a chance to cast a few today. These are cast soft, just pure lead with a smidge of tin left over from my last pot of 16-1 alloy in the bottom. They weigh 484 grains and are 1.245 oal. Base is .450-4505, midpoint is .445 and at the break .440. Patched with .002 100% cotton ragbond paper: .4575, .4525, and .448 at the top of the patch. I am going to load these with thin cards and a cookie and see how they shoot dirty and how many rounds can go down range with just a blow or two into the breech. Hopefully they can make a good hunting load. Summer fun started a week ago and we are rolling now!!!

Eric J. Just out of curiosity what might you have in the area of surplus moulds that are no longer of use to your shooting?

IR, I'll put up a list in the for sale or trade section in a day or two. Have about a dozen or so that I no longer have a use for. All are in very good condition and would like a new home.

Eric J. How has the Accurate Arms mould (45-485XR) been working out for you? I'm interested in a similar bullet for the same reasons you mentioned. Thanks.

RE: New Accurate Mold ordered
Have not had a chance to shoot them yet, (working up loads and shooting a Creedmoor, 1'st steel match of the season and a upcoming midrange match). I have a supply cast and patched up and will get a chance to work with them in the next 2 weeks as there is a gap between the next competition. Test dummy sets the bullet with the patch just a bit into the rifling. Chambers and extracts with no problems. I'll be working with 2 or 3 fg and a grease cookie/wad stack to help fouling control. Bullet is really nice and patches up perfectly with my paper. I think this one has promise.
