RE: Problem rifle
Kurt how about a re-chamber to a cartridge known to be a stinker to get to perform Smile at least it might feel a bit better

Just a thought, but have you checked the extractor for possibly putting side pressure on the cartridge rim-------had that problem recently with the 44-90--------not all cases interfered but those that did weren't worth pulling the trigger on

Stay Safe

Yes it has. The second day at the range when I got it. The wind blew it off the sandbags and it landed on 3/8" lime chips and personalized the extra fancy wood Smile About like throwing a log chain in the brand new truck box.

Dave,

No I never checked the extractor for binding.

Guys the rifle is taking a rest for a spell. Later on I have a couple barrels I'm going to freeze when I get a barrel wrench made.

RE: Problem rifle
Kurt,
If it's already had 3 barrels and none would shoot, I have a hard time thinking that's the problem. As suggested check the wood and I would probably do some action polishing and a magnified look at each part, about on every moving part. Something either slightly off enough to do a part time drag. Might also change the action springs since an odd one would really make that happen.

Maybe possible to switch locks to see if it changes... should you happen to have another rifle an (:>))

RE: Problem rifle
Without a doubt this has been the most intriguing discussion of possible things that effect the ability of a rifle to perform "under control"
Some where in these suggestions is the solution, it may be interrelated issues and so difficult to pinpoint

Fascinating approach

i know everyone that has responded will stay engaged until Kurt finds the answers

RE: Problem rifle
I will get back at it later this year. Right now I have a new bullet for the .44-75 and starting on a new case of OE and my shooting season starts in three weeks at Effingham and maybe St Louis at the end of March, plus Cadillac Mich I think is getting close too.
TNX. for all of your suggestions.

RE: Problem rifle
Kurt-Did you use the same sights with all 3 bbls?
If so-Could very well be an issue with the tang sight.
