RE: Accurate Mould
Good to hear Kurt. I've been very, very impressed with Toms moulds and the ability to have one 'as you design' mould from sketch to delivered in the mail, usually in under a month is pretty impressive. Every time I got close to buying a 444... I always ended up with a 45/70 so I'll just sit back and watch this thread. Seems like your first outing is showing you the goods already. Well done.

RE: Accurate Mould
Gavin This mould I went with the brass blocks and it sure is a good one. If Tom ever gets the CNC to cut the prolates for the rifle he will be making another one for me for sure.
Stick with the .45-70 unless you find a good one in the .444 with Ballard rifling.
Don
I still have some ways to go with it. Sure would be nice if I could put a tang sight on this one for windage adjustment. It was blowing pretty good today.

RE: Accurate Mould
Man Don, I hate to think about drilling holes in this rifle. It's been with me for a long time with out getting buggered up.

If not there may be a receiver sight that attaches in the scope mount holes on the top of it.
I had to go down and look. Never felt a need for a receiver sight on this rifle. Nothing on the right but I have two plugged holes on the left just below the ejector pin hole. I will have to make a search and see if I can find one. I have seen receiver sights for the top but they are not wind adjustable.

Just being fussy but those two holes for receiver sight mounting should be on the left side of the action, high and to the rear (toward the hammer).
Kurt, All Marlin firearms used Micro-groove rifling after 1956, so they didn't make any .444s with the Pope style rifling.
I don't have a .444 but I do have a .375 and that gun has made a couple of kills. Just a re-named .38/55 and, in fact, the Marlin 375s accept .38/55 ammo just fine. Shoot sharp, Mike
