RE: Lyman 457132
Well, mine weigh at 520 gr. But what a bullet. Had been tickled by the Saeco 645s but this just shines. Shot both today and was a little surprised. Was sure the 132 would want the 69 gr load but it preferred the 68 gr charge too, and the Saeco still likes the 68 gr. We're limited to 200 yds but I'll start makin some chickens to make full use of the short range, and to learn this rifle off hand. Today was from the bench. As I get better I'll be able to give a better review, but at least today I didn't miss the target. Spotting scope helped tons too. Also like that we can hear the bullet hit. Was a little nervous about the loads, havin to "float" the bullet to put it on the lands cuz of where the GG/1st band are, but dunno whether I can tell the difference in pressures yet. Gonna land the loads next time too to see whether that's why I was all over the center this time. A lot I did different and better today--figure last time bein uncomfortably prone was a scratch. Found myself drifting to fire today, floating up and squeezing rather than steadying static, maybe to preempt any flinch, but it feels good to shoot this way, a little like skeet. Cheers, Doug
p.s. Guess I'm a little thrown that putting the bullets on the lands didn't change the charge preference for the 645 w/ the added pressure. Also, surprised how well the Mr. Clean did to get the powder out. Didn't seem to be doin much at the range, but by the time I got home the water was really black. Brass is real pretty inside.

RE: Lyman 457132
thx for your replys
i have measured the Bulletbody with a result of .458
The part of the boreriding section ( nose) measured .444
i pour ladle every bullet the same way and the bullet drops with sharp edges and squared groves.
my Lead are pure Roof Lead with a bit Tin a real soft alloy
i`ve been happy with the results of this Bullet because it produce much closer groups on paper as the 457125 Gov.
But i was wondering about the weight of 490 grs it`s 45 grain less than normal

RE: Lyman 457132
This is almost 2 years old. Wish there was more reporting but I'm not above resurrecting threads. Also, which is the Saeco, top or bottom?
I thought to draw the 132 out and keep that for reference then piddle with the drawing some (keeping the same nose) but possibly adding a very short bore-riding section, added to a reduced first band at bore diameter for alignment as well as adding a longer base band, at least .100. If I like it that is what I'd send to a Steve or another mold maker.
I'm certain I'll try the Saeco but I can buy bullets before investing in a mold there.
Any thoughts? Also looking at the 457121 for ideas.

RE: Lyman 457132
John.
https://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/d...man-moulds
The Lyman 457-671 bullet has a very close profile to a shortened postell. It is a gas check bullet that can be made a flat base and it also has a shorter nose that would be a benefit for shooting in a fouled chamber for taking more shots with out fouling control.
It is as is a 470 grain and that length can be kept and also lightened up some by making it with a thinner base band like the 132 and widen the three grooves that would be better for lube left behind in the bore for fouling and it also would lighten the bullet and keep the length. A wide shallow wide lube groove is better then a narrow deep groove. A groove deeper then ten thousands deep is a waste of lube because it will never come into contact with the bore.
It will be hard to find one of the original Ideal perfection moulds with the 415 gr or the 475 gr cavity or adjustable.
I would look for a bullet cast in the 457-671 mould and see what you can do away with the gas check and make it a thinner base band.
Another thought.........you can get that mould and it the alignment pin is below the sprue plate far enough you can have the block milled off enough to do away with the gas check notch. I done that before.
The reason a dog has so many friends is because he wags his tail instead of his tongue.

RE: Lyman 457132
Interesting you would put that one out there Kurt. Good endorsement! Was just commenting a week or so ago to a friend I shoot with over in the Okanogan Valley about the 457671 ( http://levergun-scoundrels.com/thread/49...elp?page=3). Its a levergun forum but the Single Shots are starting to outnumber the repeaters. He bought a second mold and removed the gas check and played with both for a while much like you say before settling on the unmodified one. I like your suggested changes to the lube grooves. I understand I won't find one of those Ideal molds. Mostly just wanting to baseline them in a drawing, then steal characteristics and play around with modifications in the TNT software before going to a Brooks or Boomer or whomever. The 671 now extends my list to four candidates (Ideal 457132, Lyman 457121, Lyman 457671 and a Sharps nose I saw of unknown mnfg or mold #. Bob (who you referred me to) sent me a photo. If I can recall how to post pictures I'd post that picture of that Sharps bullet. I'm anxious to mic the nose on that one. Thanks a bunch!

RE: Lyman 457132
Ha! wasn't that hard.
Kurt, the Sharps bullet is second from left. Do you happen to know who made that originally, or the mold number?
