Lee Shaver Economic Sight

Hi Gent`s,

hope you all have had nice Christmas.

by the way i`ve been looking for a new Rearsight,currently i use a normal poor Pedersoli Verniersight By my searchin in the Net i was stumble over the Lee Shaver Economical Longe Range Vernier Sight.

my given Range are limited to 100 m seldom i can shoot up to 300 m.

will it be a good choice for me to buy the Lee Shaver

I would suggest the Baldwin short range, or the midrange soule sight. But I think you'll have problems finding someone to export sights to you.

I don't know what the import/export laws are anymore. It used to be you could send used items into the eastern sector to family or friends, like scuffing up new shoes making them look used?????????

As far as using a midrange sight mine will reach 900 yards. A schuetzen should work fine for you.

Don, they do send sights to Canuck land. I'm not sure whether it's just because they trust us Canadians :-). Sights and such don't seem to be a problem, but stuff like barrels, brass, bullets, action parts, definitely need permits.

Klaus, I'm not sure how much I trust the Shaver sights. I have owned two of the deluxe ones. One of them loosened up over time and the other was OK. The windage marks were not very legible on either once they had a little use. They didn't seem to be engraved into the metal like on the MVA sights, they looked sort of painted on.

If you are sure that you'll only shoot at 100 yards then I don't think any of it matters as you probably aren't adjusting windage much at all. I don't know how much of an improvement it would be over the Pedersoli ones. I also owned a Pedersoli sight ( not the base model but one of the the "good ones". I actually liked it more than the Shaver sights, except that it was very bulky.

Nowadays I stick with MVA, although I have a new Distant Thunder front sight coming :-)

My experiences with Shaver sights have not been good. Buy the best and only buy once.

i wrote with Lee Shaver and and it will be no problem to send the sight by USPS.
(The same easy way i have had with Al from NOE Bullets)

As i wrote before i can only shoot at 100 m, very seldom 300 m .
Windage adjustment are needed to make for one time only, that all. ( most time)
My first look was at the Pedersoli USA 431 but it seems to be Clumsy in the lower part ( Windage Adjustment) so i have had a look at the USA 430 or 446 Creedmore Sight because it looks to be more slender .
I always need a Long Range hight because i have just a Roller and a lot of adjustment space from the sight are out of use by the lower tang opposide to a Sharps

I read that Lee Shaver use or has used Parts from Pedersoli back in time.
if it was the thruth i don`t know.
but if Lee use Parts of his own the Lee Shaver Eco Sight looks like nice as the much expensive Pedersoli Soule Sight not to talk about Heilman or Baldwin Sights.

to explain my behavior..
The Lee Shaver cost 225 USD plus Shipping round about 220 Euros
The Pedersoli 430 and 431 or 406 are 205 Euros plus 6 Euros shipping
The Soule Sight from Pedersoli are 340 Euros
MVA Soule up to 800 Euros
C- Sharps up to 900 Euros

When I buy MVA sights they are about $450. Isn't the Euro worth about $110? If so the MVA sight should be around 415 Euro plus shipping. For me I am going to be buying less because the Canadian dollar is doing very poorly now with the depressed oil prices.

But you are right, you don't need a very expensive sight for your purposes. I would hate to see you spend the money on a sight that is not any better than what you have.

at this moment / Dollar / Euro e
1 US Dollar are 0,91 Eurocent

i can buy nearly all Sights here in Germany like MVA, Kelly, UKP,Heilman etc. but they costs much more money as i have to pay in the US.
But to the current Value it will be no benefit to buy a high value Sight because the customs duty are 20 Percent and 19 Percent import sales Tax.

will think about it .....
