casting
Might just be a good week to get some casting done. Rain/rain/rain/more rain...... the weeks forecast.

Have you been/are here ????
I have a collection of bullets... some lubed with ?? some not but hardness not indicated, some I don't have a clue what mold they came from or where bought and I'm sure I no longer have the mold if I did cast them.
So, I think I'm going to clean out the bullet shelf, dump the whole works in a big pot and melt it all down. I will then just start over.

I do have bullets cast last year that are marked and not lubed. They're keepers but there's not many left.

I must have 3-400 loaded rounds. OLD loaded rounds. I do know the load on almost all. There's a few boxes with mixed left overs that I've plinked with in the past and they are marked (marked "junk") I'm still considering pulling bullets and throwing them in the pot too !!

RE: casting
Yup sure have Jim.

A couple years ago I melted down a whole 5 gallon bucket full of recovered snow bullets. Pulled the handle off when I slid it in the loader bucket. Also a couple thousand bullets taking up room from not getting used. Took about a week to melt them down three times in a big Cast iron pot to get them all blended so the alloy would be close to being the same and did it again after they where 2# ingots.
No clue what the hardness ended up being, but the new bullets shoot quite well in all my calibers Smile

RE: casting
When I cast, there are notes with the castings as to date, tin/lead ratio, wt.. I have left-over ammo loaded for the Q from 3-5 years ago. Use them as foulers, fun plinking, etc. I don't know, just like to keep a handle on that old stuff.

Old guys have old ways, I guess.
That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it!

Yep, but over 15+ years things have been mixed up, part boxes mixed so I could free up a box for new stuff and so on. Time to clean out the whole mess and start over !! Some of the "known stuff" even if it is old will be used for plinking.

One of the problems stems from the fact that I have brass/loads for each rifle. A few of them reside in the back of the safe and have not been fired in 10 years........Confused
