RE: Speaking of 50's...the Govt Round
I might add. I have a barrel I pulled off my CPA and I'm thinking of having it rebored to a .50, the .50-70, and when I find a place to send it to I will have a .500/.506 bore groove with a 32 pitch.

Kurt, I asked John Taylor if he could do that and he says "yes!" However, he might argue in favor of a .504/.510" combination.
You can contact him at info@johntaylormachine.com. And Joe Williams should be able to do that too. I've been thinking about getting a .50 caliber 1 turn in 32" myself to build up a .50/70 Rolling Block. Shoot sharp, Mike

The .504/.510 would work. That is a shallow groove. Something to keep in mind when I get a PP reamer made to fit that combination.
That would even work decent with a standard reamer.

Yes, and any existing greaser bullets and sizing dies would still work great. Let's keep talking and maybe a pair of barrels could be ordered with a consideration in price. Just a thought. Shoot sharp, Mike

I guess I need to call Gail at CPA and see if she has a extractor for a .50.

Kurt, I think that the largest rim that CPA lists is for the .348 Winchester. I dont know for sure but I would guess that a 50 would not be all that much bigger. So I would hazard a guess that you could get one chambered in the 50.

The length is also a problem clearing the hammer spur. My .44-75 has a 2.5" long case and with a PP bullet the rim drags across the hammer. The .50-70 being shorter but larger in diameter ????????
I will call Gail and ask her if they ever chambered one.
