F/S .58 caliber percussion Hawken rifle
Is anyone interested in muzzleloaders on this site? I have for sale a .58 caliber percussion fullstock Hawken that I built along the lines of an original S. Hawken that is pictured in Accouterments ll. This rifle has a 36" Rice barrel and the muzzle is funneled (or coned) for easier loading. It likes a .562" round ball wrapped in a .020" lubricated patch. My basic load for this rifle uses just 60 grains of FFg powder, or 90 grains for a hunting load. It has a Davis lock and L&R triggers. Also, it has a solid (not a hooked) breech. The stock is nice straight grain maple. This rifle is in great shape, almost still new. I'm selling it only because I have more Hawkens than I need (and I want more Sharps). I'm offering this rifle for $1050 and I'll pay the postage. And I'll throw in a gun cover made from a tan 4-point blanket with an elk skin end at the muzzle. The cover is the top one in the photo. This rifle is a very good shooter and it was made to be taken on the hunt. On the right side, just ahead of the lock, is a vertical "cut" that was made while the stock was being shaped. Rather than fill this shallow saw cut, it was left in and finished as is. If you have any questions, just ask. Shoot sharp, Mike
