RE: Rifle barrels
TNX. Bruce, Chris.

I just got my reamer before I left home for a .45-90 And been looking for a different barrel to put on my .44-75 CPA and I read a lot of good about the Smith barrels.

RE: Rifle barrels
Kurt the one thing about the RKS barrels is that they are pretty tight in the bore compared to some of my others. I should probably have mentioned it in my last post. In my .32-40 I use a bullet that is too small for my Badger barreled CPA in .32-40.

I was loading for the new CPA with the RKS barrel last night and tried three different bullets that fit my Badger bores. All of them had deep engraving on the nose. I'm guessing that the bore diameter is maybe 0.002" smaller than a Badger. My elliptical PP bullets fit well, but I need to use a Russ Weber seater to get them in. I'll have to wait until next week to shoot that one now.

Chris.

A little late, but I just placed a order for a new CPA in the .45-90 and I was going to replace the .44-75 barrel so I called Ron and he could not make the barrel for the .44 specks I want. .438/.446 bore/groove. He is not setup for those dimensions and he is back logged pretty far so the .45-90 will have a #4 16 twist XX Douglas on it.
Really liking the 44-1/2 Stevens CPA rifles. Should have it in time for Lodi.

RE: Rifle barrels
Kurt, I think the Douglas XX barrels must be pretty decent. My newer CPA has a .32-40 Douglas XX barrel too. I've only tried that barrel once and I think it could be quite good. With a breech seated bullet from Brooks that has the grease grooves like a Saeco 200gr and the nose of the Hoch 322200, it put 8 into under 1/2 minute high and just under a minute wide at 40 rods. Mind you that was with smokeless.

I like the CPA's bu find them very fiddly. I have to watch the screws like a hawk. My new one has twice loosened the barrel screw in the middle of a day's shooting. The upper tang screw and the hammer pivot screw come loose often too. But, if I keep on top of all of these screws, these just might be my most accurate rifles.

I hope that new barrel works well for you.

Chris.

RE: Rifle barrels
I've NEVER had a bad Kreiger (over a dozen barrels).......Can't say the same for many other makers. Also good luck with Green Mountain (3 barrels) , PacNor (5 or 6 barrels)
