On moderation, and thank you to the community
For any who know me, you may know that I positively LOVE to argue online. And if you're like me and have spent very much time doing it at all, you know that it isn't always pleasant and folks don't always play fair.

This is where the moderator usually has to step in and set things right. Closing threads, admonishing users, all that sort of stuff. Some sites have a super heavy hand, taking action on the slightest perceived insult or actively herding conversations towards a particular line of thought. And this board certainly has a ton of tools that allow for that sort of thing, too. There's about a dozen ways to skin each particular forum cat.

When my dad and I set this site up a few years back, he and I had a discussion about how much work I thought it would be to keep the place cleaned up. How much time I thought might be sunk into the endeavor, and whether or not he thought just the two of us could handle it, or if he had ideas about other moderators to recruit.

Well, as far as I know, my old man is keeping the peace all by himself. I have been asked for some technical advice here and there, but that's about it. Honestly I go weeks without checking in, because there's not a whole lot of need.

And who should get the credit for that?

Well, you, dear forum member. (Thought I was going to say Dad, didn'tcha?) See, if not for your good behavior there would be a lot more work to do, a lot more rules, and a lot less fun on the part of us admins.

So thanks where it is due, first and foremost, to each and every member who has successfully contributed to our little site. God bless each and every one of you.

And some props go out to dad, too, I guess. Smile

Thanks for letting me ramble,

Bob

Bob thanks to you , we have this place we can come visit and carry on, with no expense, no warnings about using excessive bandwidth, and the whole thing has worked out much better than I thought it would when you first approached the idea.

Thank you gentlemen, it's praise like that that makes what it takes to keep up with this thing worth while. A forum is only as good as the members, and while we don't have a lot of members we do have good ones.
