RE: Opinions on Ordering New 38-55, Please
the big problem with going with long heavy bullets in the 38-55 is you run out of powder. I have one with a 15 twist and no throat and am able to get 47 gr of Ctg behind a 330 gr postel bullet. I don't think I would want to go much over 350gr unless you could seat it well out and get close to 50 gr of powder behind it. For target work anything in the 300 plus range should work fairly well. Over the weekend I played around with the Hoch 300 gr tapered bullet that CPA sells. I put 45 gr of CTG behind it and once dialed in was able to hold minute of pig at 300m. I don't think that is bad for a starting point. I know that GOEX likes a lot of compression and I was only running about .120 or so. Thus I am thinking more powder and more compression will tighten things up. Time will tell
