Shiloh 1877 finally on the schedule
Just got done doing all the final payment and changes to my Shiloh 1877 English Sporting Rifle #1 . I am always amazed at the patience and kindness from the Shiloh folks when talking on the phone. The round barrels start 14Aug21 mine will be 32” polished , I am aware of the “ reflective’ nature of polished blued steel , I’ll live with it for a Shiloh polished round barrel as I have the other two contours on other Shiloh’s but none polished. The 1877 looks fabulous to my eye with a round barrel. I skipped another 40-70 2.5 SS looked at the 40-50 SBN and decided on another 45-70 standard chamber . I like the cartridge a lot and maybe my favorite BPCR cartridge, not that I have a lot of experience with the bigger BPCR cartridges as I have none. The DD bullets have changed the 45-70 to something very exciting for me and kept everything simple.
I did buy a Cecil Freddi stock blank, nice piece of English Walnut with forend to be a schnabble AA finish, brass escutcheons , fire blued screws, standard CCH ( no one does nicer) . Rigby Rib, traditional steel butt plate. It it will be my only Shiloh without a cheek rest.
I had always wanted a 1877 when Axtell was around, I met Carmen in Sacramento CA and she was such a great lady and invited me shoot one her rifles . I’m still in awe of the rifle she had, just a magnificent design the 1877’s are.
