Kurt I think in cartridges that generally use less than 90 grains of powder the standard weight barrel is the way to go. But when the powder charge reaches 90+ the heavier the barrel the more manageable it becomes. The 40-90 is a classic case in point. With it's standard weight barrel the recoil isn't bad, but the muzzle jump is horrific. I think a heavy weight barrel in that cartridge it would make a great long range gun. Those standard weight barrels also heat up a bunch more.
