409 should not cause problems with the bullet in the barrel.
if the chamber neck will take a round with a 409 bullet, the new chamber will be bigger in the neck than the original.
originals would slip fit a pp bullet in a fired case with slight friction.
a groove diameter bullet would not enter a fired case.
this could be another original rifle to suffer the slings and arrows of modern gunsmithing - hopefully not.

no,it's fine Bruce. The 40 70 shells chamber fine, the PP bullet slip fits in the slightly expanded shell, and then I 'tweak' with the factory crimp die. so no chamber problem for sure.
but. wanting to try a FN 330 with 3 groves,it's just the overall size that I'm thinking about. I could very easily tell him to make it .408 or even .407, But Steve thinks .409 for GROOVE diameter will work.
