You actually get more moisture down the barrel when you blow directly down the muzzle.
Just look at the blow tube while you blow through it and see the moisture droplets stay behind.

I was really amazed yesterday afternoon, when I got back to the house and cleaned the 44 it had been about an hour since the last shot was fired. I blew about 4 breaths down the muzzle and 3 patches later was still coming out damp. The first dry patch thru came out almost dripping.
