RE: This is what kepted me waiting ....
I been working getting brass to fit the heavy barreled original 44-100 Remington chamber and it had been a drag the way I been doing it but it's the only way I can do this. I made a die using the reamer I used for the chamber but the brass has a lot of spring back even when annealing the whole case to stop some of the spring back.
I talked to C&H to see if they can make a sizing die for me and they said I have one in stock I had them send it and it turned out being a die that is like my .44-90 BN so I fired it back and I asked if I send you the chamber print and a few cases that have been fired in the chamber 4 times and they are still sticking a little but they can use them for a pattern but .002 smaller in dimensions. There answer was yes but it will take a year or more before I can deliver. Groannnn!
I think I will lap the chamber with a case that is still tight but this will be the last option.
I will design a second reamer and make a sizing die using it. The die I made using the chamber reamer will make a good in line seating die should I want to use a GG bullet so that effort was not wasted making it.
So far I have 200 rounds shot one time but beating then the final 1/4" in the chamber and using a cleaning rod driving the sticking brass out is a drag.
I have 15 cases I shot 4 times and I can seat those with my thumb but they still stick when extracting them.
This rifle with the cases that almost fit is showing that this will be a good shooting rifle.
All of my case forming has been done at 130 yards except today I went to the 200 yard pit. At 130 yards I shot 7 rounds using the brass that has been shot 4 times and it shot a round group that shot a 3/4" out side to out side take off the bullet diameter makes it about 1/2" C/C and a second 7 shot group using a different bullet shot a 1 1/2 vertical group.
What really surprised me was; I was using 30 year old CC 250 LR primers I wanted to use up and 2F of the old KIK powder that gave me fits in the .44-90 BN.
Today that load at 200 yards using a 506 grain .432 diameter PP elliptical KAL bullet with 85.5 grains of the old 2FG KIK powder cases 5 times fired shot a 6 shot group 1 3/4" high 3/4" wide.
Man If I dont wear this barrel out driving cases in and out it shows signs that it will shoot.
