Heading out in 2 hrs

Well it's a done deal. We spotted the herd about 9:45 am and worked in. Bellied to the top of a sandhill overlooking the herd. The buff selected was right on the money at 100 yds quartering away but looking back at me. I was using a mid-range tang sight with a large holed eye cup and a black post frt aperature. Not a good choice the post simply disappears against the buff's hide. I shot from prone with my 50-140 and 500 gr paper patched bullet. I hit elevation wise just right and about 3" behind the last rib on the left side. The bullet plowed completely thru the grass bag, diaphram, thru some lungs and plumbing off the top of the heart,on thru to bust the 4th rib from the brisket back and lodge in the inside right shoulder. Over 3' of very demanding insides to penetrate but the job was done. The bullet was recovered. The hide is a beauty and the buff was prime and fat 449 lbs on the hanging halves. Will try to post some pics of the buff and the bullet tonite. At the hit the buff took 2 steps stopped and started to sway a bit 2-3 minutes later was down. Immediately after the hit before I got reloaded other buffalo moved to surround mine and tried to keep it vertical as well as horn it back up. There was no possibility of a second shot to hurry the dying process, sometimes that is the way it is with buffalo. bobw
