Sifting Powder

RE: Sifting Powder
68 gr. 1F.... I shot some test rounds today and had a 6 fps ES if you discount the first clean bore shot.... Seems my compression changes are getting it done. Fouling has become very insignificant. Two dry patches after testing my best load and the barrel was nearly clean.. If I remember correctly the compression of that good load was .200. I kept good notes just they are in my reloading room.

Run it on up to 70 grains and see what happens

Sounds at first reading like remarkably positive results. Good Job! Noticed you mentioned a 6 fps ES but no velocity average. Single digit ES's are often difficult to obtain. Also, you did not mention to what purpose your load is to be applied.

With vintage (1997 and earlier) Goex CTG and 2F I usually started with .250" of compression in the 45-90, no experience with current Goex 1F in the 90.

To expand on what the slinger of rocks offered, if it were me, I would determine how much velocity was desired and add powder until that goal was reached and then vary compression. There is normally some difficulty in maintaining overall cartridge loaded length as compression is increased and you probably will have to screw the compression die down incrementally to maintain COAL.

RE: Sifting Powder
The velocity was in the 1106 to 1112 range...
I am not concerned about velocity. I mean these smoke poles are not speed demons like a 220 Swift...
