RE: New Alloy
Don, that .40-90 is that a straight or bn? and how do you like that caliber?

RE: New Alloy
I’m going to give that alloy a try Don, that was some impressive shooting you did with that 40-90. I’m been thinking about that and may have to start looking around. Just got another year older and that 110 is starting to punish me.

Mike the way that 110 treated you at Alliance, I would be pretty hesitant to park it. That was some mighty fine shooting you did with it.

RE: New Alloy
Kurt it's the Bn. It's interesting to mess with. The recoil is a bit to deal with. This rifle is a #1 with a standard weight 30 inch barrel. A limbsaver slip on pad tames it down real well. I got into trouble with it at Byers, as I was shooting once fired cases, with the same powder charge as the unformed cases.. Should of grabbed a clue when I noticed the fouling being heavier.. Long story short, with brand new cases 90 gr. of OE 1f under the BACO 396 410 gr patched bullet shoots scary good. What if figured out after it was to late, I should of jumped that charge up 4 gr. to accommodate the fire formed cases. But I haven't been able to prove that theory out yet, the weather just won't give me a break to wring it out at 1000.
The fire formed cases loaded with that patched bullet looks pretty sexy, sort of like a 270 on steroids.

RE: New Alloy
LOL that much powder under that little bullet should make that a hot seat Smile It should be a pretty flat shooter

I shot Orville's .40-straight at his 600 yard iron during some pretty good winds and it did just fine.

RE: New Alloy
It does shoot flat, I think a mid-range sight would have plenty of elevation left over to deal with severe winds at 1000.
The barrel definitely gets hot.

It was decent this morning it warmed up to 45 degrees with about a 15 mph wind so I took little Missy out and shot 11 rounds one for fouling the barrel and ten at center with this alloy and I must say Missy and I are starting to develop a good friendship bond Smile
I just shot in my yard at the 130 yard target but I think it shows promise. Now the wait till I get a chance to shoot at 500 yards to see if it holds up. But this morning is a start.

That's looking pretty good.

RE: New Alloy
Don this rifle is showing promise. But I am a little concerned that I might have starved it a little on powder with this very tight chamber I designed for it. Sixty grains of 1.5 Swiss is a heavy compressed load with this chamber.
But I did not intend for this rifle for long range.
